STUDIO ASSISTANT

The Studio Assistant supports the day-to-day running of the studio, works actively to ensure makers are well supported and happy, and keeps the studio in tip-top shape. With the studio manager and owner, they work as a team to make continuous improvements to LUMP. This is a paid position.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Studio Assistant supports the Studio Manager.

Studio and team tasks:

  • Perform any studio duties as required, including but not limited to (un)loading kilns, recycling clay, mixing glazes, organizing and tidying studio, calculating firing costs, opening/closing the studio, cleaning, ordering materials and supervising maintenance work

  • Help the studio run efficiently, namely ensuring there are enough supplies and determine an effective firing schedule

  • Make suggestions for and help implement studio improvements

  • Assign tasks to and guide studio Mentors (with Studio Manager)

  • Secure the health and safety of all those working in the studio

  • Support in the organising and marketing of LUMP activities

  • Helps to create a welcoming, supportive, and encouraging environment 

  • Give technical and creative support when requested 

  • Enforce the rules and ways of working of the studio

  • Perform administrative duties as required

  • Participate in monthly team meetings

  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with others

 

LUMP encourages everyone on the team to remain active in their ceramic practice. Candidates who show a clear plan to do so will be given preference.

EXPERIENCE

1-3 years experience with ceramics. 1-2 years experience running/assisting in a ceramic studio.

WORKING HOURS/LOCATION
  • This is a part-time position. The Studio Assistant is required to work 3 (three) 7-hour shifts per week, between Tuesday to Sunday, 11am – 9:30pm.

  • They are also required to attend 1 team meeting per month, of about 2 hours. This may fall outside of their shift.

REMUNERATION

Salary level will be determined based on and in line with level of experience. Please indicate your salary expectation in your application. The Studio Assistant is also entitled to use the studio for their own work for the duration of their employment.

This is an ongoing assignment.
