Our collaborative practice is grounded in community building and accessible, inclusive arts education. Together, we founded LUMP Studio in Hong Kong in 2017, the city’s first open-access ceramics studio, which became a hub for hobbyists and artists to connect through clay and creativity. Over 7 years, LUMP introduced hundreds of people to ceramics through classes, workshops, exhibitions and ceramic markets. Our membership-based studio was home to numerous working artists, and our Mentorship Programme supported more than 30 emerging artists with free studio space and work opportunities. Many of our members and mentees have gone on to exhibit their work and establish their own studios.
After relocating to Toronto in 2023, we are re-establishing LUMP to continue our previous work and further develop our community practice. The vision and mission of LUMP Studio is to advance the ceramic arts in Toronto and beyond, promoting ceramics as a force for cultural enrichment and social well-being, and fostering community connections by linking the public, artists, and community organisations through hands-on clay education. We advocate for the recognition of ceramics as a vital artistic medium and aim to contribute meaningfully to Toronto’s cultural and artistic landscape.
