STUDIO MENTOR

LUMP Studio offers a Mentorship program that provides ceramic artists with free studio access in return for time spent helping in our studio. The small team of Mentors act as “studio helpers” by interacting with our members and carrying out studio duties. Assignments are 6 to 12 months. Although this is not a paid position, Mentors will be entitled to a free monthly membership (valued at $2,160 per month), travel and/or firing cost allowance, and discounts on LUMP events/workshops. The program aims to provide developing ceramic artists with a fully-equipped studio, and the skills to run their own studios in the future. 

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform studio duties including but not limited to recycling clay, mixing glazes, organizing and tidying studio, calculating firing costs, opening/closing of the studio, and supporting studio events

  • Be a welcoming, supportive, and encouraging presence to all members. Provide technical, creative and administrative support as required

  • Calculating and processing firing costs

  • Enforce the rules and ways of working of the studio. Secure the health and safety of all members and staff in the studio

REQUIREMENTS

  • Recent ceramic-making experience of 1-2 years

  • Commit to an assignment of 6-12 months working 8 hour/per week on site

  • Speak English and/or Cantonese

  • Curious, enjoys interacting with others, supportive, strong sense of responsibility, and a team player

WORKING HOURS/LOCATION

  • Mentors work 8 hours per week, as 1 x 8-hour shift or 2 x 4-hour shifts

  • They are required to attend 1 in-person team meeting per month, of about 2 hours. This may fall outside of their shift.

LENGTH OF ASSIGNMENT

6- 12 months, agreed at the start of contract.
